Vincent van Gogh
Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) was desperately poor and near starvation when he began painting in his native Holland. In his ten years of supreme creative energy, van Gogh attempted a totality of human experience. In colour, he defined his relationship to nature; his indispensable ingredient.
