A small number of Norman's etchings are direct interpretations of poems whereas others reflect a mood or thought associated with the genre. Although Undine has little to do with Kenneth Slessor's poem of the same name, the figures do reflect Slessor's description of Undine from Thief of the Moon: .... the water-maid, caved in milk.
