Formerly known as Ayers Rock, Uluru is made from a coarse grained sandstone and rises 348m above the desert. It is 3.6km long, 2.4km wide and it is thought that only one third of it is visible above the sand. Sunrise and sunset are the best times for viewing Uluru.
