Dorrit Black is one of the least known Australian modernists and yet she was a dedicated and committed artist who, from 1929, advanced and promoted the cause of Modern Art in Australia. She spent time in Sydney, Europe and Adelaide. In 1946 Dorrit said: "It is the artist's business to reveal to mankind a new outlook on life and the world."
