Norman did a series of pen and ink drawings which were exhibited at the Argus Bookshop in Chicago, USA in 1936. A group of these pen and ink works was for Our Other Faces, which we assume were illustrations for a short story which we are still researching.

We have been given a number of these drawings which have come from the United States and have not been for sale since 1936. They are a delightful group of pen and ink works showing Norman's ability to create imaginative characters and situations.

The exhibition was promoted in Esquire magazine, August 1936, p.36. They didn't quite get all the details correct but they can be forgiven as it was over eighty years ago. There are five pen and ink drawings reproduced and it reads:

Our Other Faces
A group of pen drawings
by Norman Lindsay

The secret places of the heart form the locale of these drawings which translate into agile line the stifled ardors and arrogances of the timid lover, the day-dreaming and adventurous aspirations of the eternal homebody. Norman Lindsay is an English born Australian in his late fifties, who looks a lot like Carl Sandburg, who has been famous since the nineties, whose work has been collected by the discriminating for the last thirty years but has never yet percolated down to the level of mass popularity. These drawings are part of an extensive collection in the possession of the Argus Bookshop, Chicago.

Note: Norman Lindsay was born in Creswick, Victoria, Australia on 22 February 1879.
